CARS Opportunities for Involvement

Initially created through a Federal Highway Pooled Fund, CARS has been developed since 1998 by a consortium of transportation agencies in North America. Member states drive the ongoing improvement and extension of the CARS system based on their needs and budgets.

In short, CARS is an ITS standards-based hub of information that can help manage a state’s or region’s ITS infrastructure. By providing both automation and decision support functionality, CARS integrates a wide range of information to provide a comprehensive solution to traffic and traveler information management.
