CARS Use of National ITS Standards

In order to facilitate the exchange of data with other systems and centers, it is important to support the national ITS standards. To that end, CARS currently uses the Full Event Update (FEU) message from TMDD (Transportation Management Data Dictionary) to exchange data with others. The FEU message supports detailed, real-time event summaries or overviews for exchange between TMCs.

CARS also supports other messages from TMDD -including those for DMS, CCTV, and traffic detectors- to incorporate those ITS elements into the system.
